- Pre-event: Given 15m-2hr prior to an event, invigorating, fast-paced massage given at the end of a warm-up/ compression, light cross-fiber, jostling, ROM, stretching

- Intra-event: 10m-15m massage that is tailored to help the athlete recover and perform for multiple events/ Palpate with effleurage and kneading, PNR/ MET

- Post-event: 15-30m massage given within the first 1-2hr after an event to help relax an athlete/ Swedish techniques, kneading, compression, jostling, rocking, light stretching


7. Discuss the benefits of training massage or maintenance massage during training:

Releases hypertonic muscles and increases range of motion


8. List the therapeutic modalities used in training massage:

Deep pressure, TPT, PNR, MET, NMT


9. List the different types of Event Massage:

Training/ restorative massage, treatment/ rehabilitation massage


10. Name 3 levels of injury with sprains/ strains: - Grade 1: mild pain via overstretching of a muscle, little or no damage to tissues

- Grade 2: moderate to severe pain, moderate tearing of tissue, decreased ROM

- Grade 3: Immediate pain, severe/ complete rupture of tissue, no strength or ROM
